The stone is part of a large collection of eight runic stones and monoliths that were first described in 1643 by the Danish doctor and archaeologist, Ole Worm.

The memorial was destroyed around 1790. In 1814, three stones were, however, recovered in a garden fence along with the pieces of the other five stones that had been split.

The cult stone shown here dates back to the Viking age and is thought to represent the sorceress Hyrrokkin from Snorres Edda.

The legend goes that when Balder died, the Aserne were unable to launch his ship of death. They therefore call to Hyrrokkin who immediately arrives riding her wolf and a viper as her rein and with one push she is able to launch the ship. Her push was so violent that the rollers below the ship were set on fire.

Today, the remaining stones are placed in the Historical Museum of Lund.
