Lund
The motif of this cult stone originates from the upper part of a sycamore walking stick which was discovered in Lund (Scania) and dates back to approx. AD 975-1050.

At this time, all of Scandinavia was inhabited by the Vikings and Scania had been a part of Denmark since the 800’s.

The motif is a fabulous animal with a mane of twirled pampers repeated seven times. “ULFKIL” is engraved below in runic letter and is possibly the name of the owner of the walking stick.

The fabulous animal has been created in what as known as the Ringerike style. The style has its name from the geological designation of special sandstone that was used for a group of delicately ornamented memorial stones in the area surrounding Ringerike north of Oslo.
